Just another Saturday Night

Brett is very blessed to have such an amazing job working at the MTC. It gives him great practice with teaching, studying Spanish and fine-tuning his leadership skills. They like him there, and I can't blame them. He is good at what he does, very good. Unfortunately, the schedule at the MTC is rough because the missionaries need teachers there almost constantly (aside from when they sleep). That means he always has to work at least one weekend night as well as multiple weeknights. This semester his schedule is actually pretty good, so I'm not complaining. Just saying, that when he is gone I have the tendency to spend lots of time online reading blogs. I keep up-to-date on my friends. I dream about fun crafts that I'd love to do someday (like when I have kids to create things for). I even skim articles about disadvantages of the new I-Pad. And every once in a while I find pictures that amaze me and YouTube videos that inspire me. Below are some of my favorites from today's travel through the blog-sphere.

This is an example of high speed photography. Amazing that they could capture that moment in time.

This last video shows talent not related to photography. I've seen a couple of these videos and it always amazes me that they have such talent and precise movements to create an ever changing piece of art.

Date Night

I was in charge of our date night this week. I would like to say it was amazing and went off without any problems. But.. alas, I can't say that. In fact, some may have considered it to be a disaster. Luckily, Brett and I were able to laugh our way through it and still have a fabulous time.

The original plan:

• Brett accompanies Kirsten to get a hair cut (romantic, I know)
• Dinner at a local El Salvadoranian restaurant (yummy pupusas)
• Comedy Show on campus (living near a university has its perks)
• Dessert at YoZone (flavored frozen yogurt place with add-ins)
  

Sounds simple, right?. Easy, no stress date, right? Wrong.

The problems:

1. The comedy show was sold out
   
2. I had to cancel my hair appointment because I naively underestimated how long it would take to get a cut and highlights.
   
3. Having my heart set on getting my hair cut, we tried to go to another salon for a cheap cut and were told the wait was an hour.
   
4. The restaurant disappeared. Literally. Okay so more likely it just went out of business. But by this time Brett was laughing at my bad luck, and I was upset that nothing was working out.
5. When we arrived at Yo-Zone, ALL the frozen yogurt machines were empty.
   

Okay, so looking back it doesn't seem that bad. But I was upset. I do NOT like when things don't go as planned. Luckily, I can honestly say it all worked out.... spending time with my best friend/love of my life can never be considered a disaster.

The date:

• Dinner at Los Hermanos, including splurging and getting a yummy specialty drink.
• 2012 at the dollar theater.
• Oreo Milkshake from Hogi Yogi with an AMAZINGLY huge straw.

Let's hope I have better luck with my upcoming plans. Brett's b-day is on Monday and it is my year to plan the Valentines Day date.

Life is a Journey

"Life is a journey and love is what makes that journey worthwhile"

This last year has definitely been a journey. A journey that brought me great joy and peace. A year ago, I was an engaged college student. Now, I'm a married woman working at a job I love. But my journey has been more than that. It's deeper than simply graduating from college. It's deeper than the wedding ring I wear. And it's deeper than my simple words can adequately express. I know this last year was one of hardship for a lot of people. But I'm lucky enough to say that it was the best [so far] of my 22 years on this earth. And you want to know the best part? I'm looking forward to having even better years in those to come. My love for Brett is real and the Church is true. What more can I ask for? I'm so grateful for all the blessings I experience and I hope the year 2010 will give me many opportunities to share. and grow. and love.
