Softballs aren't so soft

I don't know who decided on the name "softball" because they aren't exactly soft.  Trust me, I know these things now that I'm an official legit softball player.  Okay, okay, I'm far from official but I made a giant jump into the world of slow pitch softball this year and got my fair share of blisters and bruises to prove it.  Brett has played every summer since we met and I've always enjoyed going to his games and cheering from the sidelines.  This year, however, we decided to throw together a co-ed team so I could get in on the fun.  We got a group together through our ward and signed up for BYU's intramural lower division co-ed softball.

"Tough face" picture.  Apparently some of us need a little practice being tough.

We didn't have any high expectations and were all out there to just have a good time.  And a good time was had! Also, I'm proud to report that our team went ALL-THE-WAY!  We made it through the regular season and didn't want the season to end.  Once the tournament started, we played our hardest hoping we could just live to see another game.  In the end, we won the championship game and were undefeated in tournament play.  The best part, we got these coveted intramural champion shirts to prove it!

Champions!
Actually, despite popular belief, the shirts were not the highlight of the season.  (Prepare yourself for the lovey-dovey mushy portion of this post) The real highlight was getting to play with Brett.  It really was so much fun to be on the team together.  He taught me everything I know about softball (literally) and was so loving and patient with me as I learned.  Brett is very passionate about sports and definitely gets into the games.  It was a new experience to be out there next to him when the game got intense or a little heated.  I actually surprised myself and got into the games just as much as he did (okay, almost as much as he did).   It was rewarding to work together to make a play and get the out.  And always fun to come home after the game and talk together about it (as opposed to his usual talking to me about the games).  And I especially enjoyed making him proud when I would get a good hit or catch the ball to get an out. The "good job" smile he would flash me would just make my day!  And of course I was always impressed by his ability to hit the ball FAR, think fast and make important plays.
We make a great team!
While playing, we met the classic "angry young guy" on one of the other teams.  I used to think Brett was intense, but this guy took the cake.  If you have the time, listen to the following clip as it described this player very nicely and is really funny (at least it was for Brett and I who could relate).   Some of the things describe Brett too (cough cough, plays on multiple softball teams) but overall I'm grateful Brett is not "angry young guy."  I apologize in advance for the occasional strong language.

What do you and your significant other do together for fun?
