Cancun: At the Resort, part one

We were so incredibly lucky to spend the week leading up to Thanksgiving in Cancun with Brett's family.  The trip was a family trip with his grandparents (on the Smith side),  Aunt & family (his dad's sister) and Brett's family.  The grandparents wanted a special trip with everyone there.  It was a rare time when all the grandsons were home from/not left yet on missions and were able to go.  I know it was special for them to have everyone there and I was lucky to be a part of it.  It was such a great experience with many fun memories.  I took lots of pictures and almost filled the 4 GB memory card in the camera.  I'll try to share our experience and some of the things we learned in an organized manner.

Lets start with where we stayed!  First, let me clarify.  Although I often refer to "Cancun", the truth is that our resort was in Playa del Carmen, just outside of Cancun.  It was one of many resorts along this road.  It was crazy driving up and down the road seeing all the entrances to the different places.  Quite the tourist town, that is for sure.
The resort itself was beautiful.  Once we entered the gates, there was quite a drive to get back to the lodge and then we had to take little shuttles to get around the place. Whenever we got on the shuttles to go back to our room we said we were staying in "The Jungle."
We didn't think to take pictures of the room until the last day, so please excuse the random mess.  We were so grateful for our room as it was a much needed respite from the constant humidity outside.
The grounds at the resort were covered in palm trees, flowers, tropical looking plants and huts.  The whole place just felt very tropical.
There were also crocodiles, lizards and iguanas out and about.  Okay, maybe the crocodiles weren't so much "out and about" but they were there.

It was a very relaxing and luxurious feeling place.  I highly doubt Brett and I will get the chance to visit a place like that again in the near future.  I can't say enough how lucky we were!

Time for a break.  Stay tuned for Cancun: At the Resort, part two.  The place had 2 huge pools and was right on the ocean.  Yes, it was indeed a little piece of paradise!

I LOVE Playa del Carmen! It's so much better than Cancun. Much more character and cheaper places to eat. :)
