Oregon Coast 2010

This semester Brett is back to working on Friday nights.  Kind of a bum deal, but it does give me time to blog, so that's a plus.  Especially since its been a while since I posted anything substantial.  I think we left off with the home comings of Brett's brother Tyler, and my brother David.  The next adventure we had was our trip to the Oregon Coast.

Side note:  If you received our Christmas Card/photo thingy you would know we went to the coast.  But the truth is I haven't sent those cards out yet (with the exception of a few that we sent with Dekker to pass out in Baker).  Please accept my apologies and we may or may not get those sent out eventually.

Although we were only in Portland for a few days (in connection with seeing David), we made it a priority to take the quick trip down to the coast.  It was great to spend time together with everyone, we all went: the parents, Tyler, his girlfriend Nicki, David and of course Brett and I.

The weather was rainy, of course, so we mostly just drove around to different places.  Our first stop was to see a light house.

At this stop we weren't close enough to touch the water, but looking over the ocean always reminds me how small I am and causes me to appreciate God's great creations.

While walking around, we saw signs that mentioned an "octopus tree".  Of course we had to go check it out.

And of course we took pictures in front of the tree pretending to be an octopus...

Next stop was the Tillamook Cheese factory for lunch and a tour of the facility.  I've been there many times, but it still amazes me how the factory works.

And of course a trip to the coast wouldn't be complete without touching the sand and the water. We got out and enjoyed the "beach" oregon style.  We played in the caves.

Wrote love notes in the sand.

Took pictures to prove we were there having a good time

And played the classic beach game "run away from the waves".  The boys were also throwing little rocks at the big rock in the ocean, but I guess I didn't get a picture of that.

Our next stop was at the Astoria Column.  For those of you keeping track, yes we drove all the way from south of Tillamook up to Astoria.   Unfortunately we made it there too late to climb up and throw gliders off.  Next time.

We drove across the Astoria Bridge (not pictured, but pretty cool/impressive) and ended up at a restaurant out on the pier.  I guess the place used to be an old sea food cannery.  The building was historic and had lots of character.  Complete with some old boats and a tub full of crab.

Our trip to the coast was lots of fun.  We enjoyed the time with family and,  despite both getting car sick at points, we enjoyed the beautiful scenery.  We'd LOVE to go back and spend a weekend at a beach house just the two of us.  Preferably in the summer though, so we could have at least a chance of decent weather.

Here are some collages of more pictures. Because you know I took lots!
